Terance A. Gonsalves

Terance Gonsalves is a distinguished litigator who represents clients in a wide variety of areas, including consumer protection, advertising, False Claims Act (FCA), and Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) matters. Mr. Gonsalves has tried more than 20 jury trials to verdict. He handles complex litigation, arbitrations, and mediations with his client’s business interests at the forefront. As a former police detective, Mr. Gonsalves has tremendous insight that adds value to internal and regulatory investigations, internal audits, and other compliance and governance matters.

Mr. Gonsalves routinely serves as lead counsel before federal and state courts, and represents clients before the Department of Justice, Department of Education, US Attorney’s Offices, Federal Trade Commission, and state attorneys general. His particular experience in FCA and qui tam litigation allows him to skillfully counsel clients during critical government intervention decisions and all phases of litigation, including fact and expert discovery, and appellate proceedings.

Mr. Gonsalves is also an authority on the TCPA, defending clients against class actions and individual claims in jurisdictions across the country. He routinely partners with clients to ensure TCPA compliance, including advising clients with issues related to lead generation. He frequently presents on the TCPA, discussing risk mitigation, compliance, liability, and future ramifications.

The experience and insight Mr. Gonsalves gained in-house also sets him apart. Recognized for astute judgment and scalable solutions, he has the ability to quickly pinpoint his clients’ priorities and craft practical solutions. He previously served in-house as deputy general counsel for litigation at Career Education Corporation, a provider of postsecondary education services. He maintains a deep understanding of the federal, state, and accrediting agency issues facing institutions in this highly regulated space, and assesses his clients’ legal, regulatory, and compliance concerns with a substantive and practical eye.
