Terence N. Hawley

Terence has been in practice for nearly two decades, focusing primarily on complex business litigation and class action defense. He has opposed class actions involving financial products, insurance sales practices, mortgage lending, consumer electronics, internet advertising, wage and hour claims, medical devices, and other matters. In addition to class actions, Terence has handled a broad range of high-stakes disputes, including contract, licensing, business tort, real estate, trade secret, antitrust, and trademark cases. Many of his cases have involved claims under California’s Unfair Competition Law, Business and Professions Code Section 17200. He has represented clients in trials and arbitrations, has defeated numerous claims through dispositive motions, and has favorably settled matters through mediation or other means. Terence also has substantial experience with requests for injunctions or other expedited relief and is skilled in the area of electronic discovery.

Terence’s pro bono practice has included prosecution of civil rights claims and assisting nonprofit entities in securing tax-exempt status. Terence also served as Board Chair for the Level Playing Field Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to the enhancement of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education for students from underserved communities. Terence currently sits on the Board of the California Heritage Fund, which concentrates on diversity and access issues at U.C. Berkeley.
