Terry M. Grimm

Terry Grimm is a veteran trial lawyer in the areas of commercial, antitrust, patent, and white-collar criminal litigation whose practice focuses on jury trials in major cases.

Mr. Grimm currently holds the distinction of having secured the highest jury award ever collected in the Seventh Circuit of the United States, a $181 million verdict in favor of our client.

A former special prosecutor, he has tried numerous cases in state and federal courts throughout the United States. He tried the only case involving a multinational employer’s duty to a kidnapped employee, and represented United Air Lines in its successful and fiercely contested bid for authority of a Chicago-Tokyo route before the U.S. Department of Transportation. Mr. Grimm also represented Staley Continental Inc. against Drexel Burnham Lambert in a case involving alleged stock manipulation in violation of federal securities laws, and federal racketeering and extortion claims under RICO. More recently, Mr. Grimm tried a contract case in Illinois state court and his clients were awarded the highest commercial verdict ever in Cook County. His representative litigation engagements also include matters for Interstate Brands Corporation, A.E. Staley Manufacturing Co., Union Pacific Corporation, C.R. Bard, Inc., and Thomson Consumer Products. In January 2004, Mr. Grimm tried a significant commercial case in a new trial. He also represented one of the defendants in the HFCS antitrust case (the largest in U.S. history), which ultimately settled.

Mr. Grimm received a J.D. in 1967 from Indiana University Law School, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif.
