Thomas A. Howley

Tom Howley advises clients involved in financially distressed situations throughout the United States. He represents hedge funds, banks, distressed investors, committees of creditors, and companies in need of restructuring advice in distressed corporate acquisitions and divestitures, workouts, reorganizations, and chapter 11 bankruptcy cases.

Tom's representative experience includes several companies in current out-of-court workouts, MSD Performance in its chapter 11 case in Delaware, Hayman Capital as DIP lender in the chapter 11 case of Seahawk Drilling, Sanchez Capital in the successful stalking horse bid acquisition of Tri-Dimension Energy's assets out of chapter 11, the official committee of unsecured noteholders in the chapter 11 case of Energy Partners Limited, Jefferies in the workout of Baseline Oil & Gas, and Corus Bank in the chapter 11 case of a large condominium project. He also represents energy companies, hedge funds, and distressed investors in workouts and chapter 11 cases across the country.

Prior to joining Jones Day, Tom advised Prime Succession, along with 47 related debtors, in their chapter 11 cases filed in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and the official committee of unsecured creditors in the chapter 11 cases of Tony Roma's restaurant chain.

Tom currently serves as immediate past-president of the Bankruptcy Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. The section is the leading organization in Texas for professionals involved in workouts, restructurings, and bankruptcy cases. He is a past president and current advisory board member of the Houston Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association. He is also a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute.
