Thomas Gaines

is a partner at King & Spalding and serves as the firm’s Chief of Information Services Strategy and Office Integration. In this role, Mr. Gaines has principal responsibility for devising the firm's strategy for the use of technology and information services and for providing strategic direction and oversight to the firm’s IT, KM, Practice Services, Litigation Support, Library and Records Departments, thereby bringing all information services under one umbrella. In addition to information services, Mr. Gaines has oversight responsibility for the firm’s office operations worldwide and works through the firm’s Directors of Administration to integrate and provide consistency in the firm's systems, operations and processes across all King & Spalding offices. Mr. Gaines served as the firm's Chief Information Officer from 1997 through 2007.

Prior to assuming his technology management responsibilities in 1997, Mr. Gaines practiced as a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Practice Group and developed extensive experience in assisting clients in a full range of technology-related transactions, including technology acquisition and disposition, intellectual property licensing, software development, distribution and licensing, and outsourcing. Mr. Gaines joined King & Spalding in 1987 as an associate with the firm's Corporate Practice Group.

Mr. Gaines received his J.D. degree, with high honors, from Florida State University in 1986. In 1999 Mr. Gaines received his Masters of Science degree in Management of Technology from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Mr. Gaines graduated from Florida State University in 1982 with a B.S. degree in political science. Mr. Gaines is admitted to practice in Georgia and Florida.
