Tom Hawk

is a partner in the Atlanta office of King & Spalding and a member of the Healthcare Practice Group. A leading practitioner in the healthcare M&A and regulatory fields, Mr. Hawk was recently named by Nightingales Healthcare News as one of 12 Outstanding Young Healthcare Lawyers. He was also named a Rising Star by Georgia Superlawyers in 2011, 2012 and 2014. The Atlanta Business Chronicle named him to its 40 Under 40 list of rising entrepreneurs in 2013. Law 360 named him a Rising Star in 2014, one of only five healthcare attorneys nationwide to be so recognized.

Mr. Hawk represents health industry clients on various transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and general contracting issues. His clients include both for profit as well as tax exempt entities.

His practice also includes the representation of health systems, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, pharmacy benefit management companies, physicians and physician organizations, and managed care organizations on a wide variety of federal and state regulatory matters, including navigating the changes brought about by health care reform efforts, fraud and abuse compliance, HIPAA and state health information privacy laws, Stark Law compliance, ACO formation, managed care contracting and various certificate of need issues.

Mr. Hawk is a frequent speaker and writer on topics of interest in the healthcare industry. In recent years, he has spoken at the American Health Lawyers Association (“AHLA”) Fundamentals of Health Law conference, the Georgia chapter of the Medical Group Management Association, various Georgia Academy of Healthcare Attorney webinars. He has also recorded an online tutorial for AHLA’s Business Law and Governance Practice Group. Mr. Hawk also speaks at roundtable events organized periodically by King & Spalding. His recent articles include the 6th Edition of the Georgia Hospital Medical Records chapter of the Georgia Hospital Law manual.

Mr. Hawk is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the American Health Lawyers Association, and the Georgia Academy of Healthcare Attorneys where he serves on the Board of Directors. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Wake Forest University and graduated, magna cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif.
