Tiffany Renee Thomas

Tiffany is a partner in Reed Smith’s San Francisco office specializing in the defense and counseling of employers in all aspects of employment law. Tiffany represents a diverse client base that encompasses numerous industries including technology, financial services, healthcare, retail, public pension plans, and transportation.

Tiffany devotes a significant amount of her practice to the defense of employers in single and multi-plaintiff cases involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, defamation, wrongful termination, and workplace violence as well as actions involving leave, accommodations, and compensation issues. She represents employers before state and federal agencies and courts, including at trial and in arbitrations.

Tiffany’s practice includes providing advice and counsel to employers in connection with issues involving discipline and discharge, reductions in force, non-compete agreements, and various day-to-day personnel issues. She has assisted start-ups, state agencies, non-profits, and other employers in creating and refining their personnel policies and handbooks. Tiffany conducts workplace investigations and prepares responses to administrative charges filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing. She has also conducted dozens of management training seminars on proper workplace behavior as well as continuing education courses on the topics of elimination of bias and social media in the workplace.

Tiffany maintains a strong pro bono practice, including her representation of an HIV-positive pilot alleging Privacy Act violations in Cooper v. FAA, No. 08-17074 (9th Cir. 2010) on which the United States Supreme Court heard oral arguments in November 2011. She has also acted as pro bono counsel to several non-profit employers, including the Black Coalition on AIDS and Family Support Services of the Bay Area.

Tiffany is the U.S. Vice Chair of Reed Smith’s award-winning Diversity and Inclusion Initiative.
