Timothy P. Tehan, P.C. joined Akin Gump in 1978 and was named a partner in 1985. He has concentrated his practice in taxation, with an emphasis on estate planning, trusts, tax controversy, insurance, real estate, and income tax planning for individuals and closely held corporations.

Practice & Background

Mr. Tehan’s experience includes the preparation of wills, trusts, family partnerships, probate filings, estate and inheritance tax returns, employment agreements, split-dollar agreements, business buy-sell agreements, premarital agreements and post-marital agreements. His experience also includes the area of charitable giving and private foundations. In his estate planning practice, Mr. Tehan represents clients of widely diverse financial resources, ranging from medium-size estates to high-net-worth individuals and families. Planning for prudent and efficient family investments and gift transfers, in order to reduce clients’ potential estate tax liabilities, is an area of special emphasis and concentration for Mr. Tehan. In his practice of estate and trust administration, he has represented numerous individual and corporate trustees and executors with respect to their fiduciary and tax obligations and responsibilities.

Mr. Tehan received his B.S. with highest honors in finance from the University of Notre Dame in 1975 and his J.D. with honors from the Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1978.

Mr. Tehan is a member of the State Bar of Texas and its Section on Taxation, Real Property, Probate and Trust Law; the Probate and Trust Section of the Dallas Bar Association; and the Dallas Estate Planning Council.
