Todd Torres is an associate in the Boston office where he focuses his practice on employment litigation. He offers advice and provides representation before both state and federal courts as well as before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and the Rhode Island Commission for Human Rights. Mr. Torres’s experience includes the defense of discrimination claims arising under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Equal Pay Act, as well as wage and hour violations under the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Massachusetts tipped employee statute. In addition to issues concerning employee privacy and drug testing, Mr. Torres has significant experience with both Massachusetts and Rhode Island state employment laws and has drafted and reviewed numerous employee handbooks for compliance with the laws and regulations of both states.
Before joining Ogletree Deakins, Mr. Torres served as a law clerk to the Business Calendar as part of the Rhode Island Supreme Court Law Clerk Department and worked as a summer associate at a large Massachusetts and Rhode Island based law firm. As a law student, Mr. Torres focused his studies in the areas of labor and employment law with a particular emphasis in the area of employment discrimination. Mr. Torres also worked as a student clerk for an Administrative Law Judge at the U.S. Department of Labor hearing appeals of federal workers’ compensation benefits as well as a research assistant at the National Center for State Courts. Prior to law school, Mr. Torres worked as a paralegal at the U.S. Department of Justice.
Out of the office, Mr. Torres serves on the Board of Directors for the Young Lawyers Division of the Massachusetts Bar Association where he co-chairs the Division’s Education Committee. The Education Committee sponsors speaking events and presentations for both new and experienced practitioners on topics including changes in the law and professional development.
