VIJAY SEKHON is a partner in Sidley’s Century City office and a member of the M&A, Private Equity and Securities practice groups. His practice focuses on mergers, purchases, sales and reorganizations of public and private companies, public equity offerings, public debt issuances, private placements and purchases and sales of debt and equity for public and private companies and general corporate and securities law.

He has represented The Blackstone Group, L.P., Cerberus Capital Management, L.P., Franklin Templeton Investments, Pine River Capital Management, L.P., Levine Leichtman Capital Partners Inc., Fast Retailing Co., Ltd., Universal Studios Japan, Z Capital Partners, L.L.C., Siris Capital Group, LLC, Glendon Capital Management LP, Tribune Publishing Company, Castle Creek Capital LLC, ZelnickMedia Corp., HoldCo Asset Management LP and FBR Capital Markets & Co.

Vijay served as senior counsel in the Office of the General Counsel of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 2009 to 2011, and is an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law. He was a judicial intern for former Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist in the United States Supreme Court and the Honorable Ellen Segal Huvelle in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Vijay has published numerous articles related to law, business and finance in respected academic and practitioner journals, including the Stanford Journal of Law, Business & Finance, the Berkeley Business Law Journal, the Securities Regulation Law Journal, the Real Estate Finance Journal, and Pratt’s Journal of Bankruptcy Law, and has been recognized as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers Magazine each year since 2013.

Vijay earned his J.D. from Stanford Law School, and received his B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of California at Berkeley. Vijay is also a licensed real estate broker in the state of California and a member of the Financial Lawyers Conference.
