Austin Jowers

is a partner in the Financial Restructuring Practice Group in King & Spalding’s Atlanta office. Mr. Jowers’ practice encompasses a broad range of bankruptcy matters with a focus on distressed M&A transactions and representing lenders and agents in connection with commercial workouts and restructurings.

Mr. Jowers has extensive experience representing financial institutions in connection with all aspects of in and out of court restructuring matters, including debtor in possession financing, exit financing and cash collateral matters, as well as federal and state court receiverships and foreclosure actions. He has served as counsel to secured lenders, debtor in possession lenders, and agents for lenders in a number of significant restructurings, including AMF Bowling Worldwide, Inc., TPO Hess Holdings, Inc., NWL Holdings, Inc., Bender Shipbuilding Co., Contract Research Solutions, Inc., Lichtin/Wade, LLC and Potomac Supply Corporation.

In addition, Mr. Jowers specializes in representing purchasers and sellers of distressed assets in chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. In connection with M&A transactions involving financially distressed companies, his clients have included sellers such as Cagle’s Inc., Zacky Farms, LLC, Sea Island Company, Propex, Inc., Rhodes, Inc., Titan Financial Group and Centennial HealthCare Corporation, as well as purchasers such as Lone Star Funds, Arcapita, Inc., Rooms To Go, Land South Holdings, LLC and Green Earth Fuels, LLC.

Mr. Jowers is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Turnaround Management Association, the American Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Association and the State Bar of Georgia. He serves on the advisory board for the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Southeast Bankruptcy Workshop and the advisory board for the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta Cole Society. He is also a member of the firm’s associate development committee and lectures frequently on bankruptcy issues before bar groups and in continuing legal education programs. Mr. Jowers has been selected as a Georgia “Rising Star” in Bankruptcy by Atlanta Magazine (2011, 2012, 2013).

Mr. Jowers received his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Rhodes College in 2000 and his law degree, cum laude, from Washington & Lee University in 2003, where he was awarded the American Bankruptcy Institute Medal of Excellence.
