Wade M. Coriell

Wade Coriell

is a partner in King & Spalding’s International Arbitration Group, residing in the Houston office.

His practice focuses on representing foreign investors in disputes with host governments and private parties in international commercial disputes. He has represented clients before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the American Arbitration Association (AAA), the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague (PCA), and other international and domestic arbitral institutions. Mr. Coriell’s experience includes investment and commercial disputes in Latin America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, with particularly strong expertise in the energy sector. His recent cases include one of the largest bilateral investment treaty awards ever received by a foreign investor—a $700 million partial award (pending further proceedings on taxes and interest) against the government of Ecuador for unduly delaying seven commercial cases filed against the government by a U.S. oil company in Ecuadorian courts.

Mr. Coriell has won significant arbitral awards against the governments of Argentina, Ecuador, and Turkey, and he currently represents investors in disputes with the governments of Argentina, Ecuador, Romania, and Venezuela. In the 2010 edition of The Global Arbitration Review 100, he was named a “lawyer to know.” Since 2005, Texas Super Lawyers and Texas Monthly have annually named him a “Rising Star” in international law. Mr. Coriell frequently speaks and publishes on international law and arbitration issues, and among other memberships, he currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration.
