William B. Marianes

Bill practices in the areas of corporate law; mergers and acquisitions; organization and capitalization of business entities; intellectual property identification, protection and commercialization; outsourcing and privatization transactions; franchising; entertainment, publishing, sponsorship and ancillary rights transactions; closely held and family businesses and business succession planning; gaming and state-run lotteries.

He advises and represents entrepreneurial, middle-market and public companies in all aspects of business transactions and mergers and acquisitions activities. He has served as lead counsel in more than $4 billion of outsourcing/privatization transactions.

As part of his commercial and intellectual property practice, Bill has been lead outside counsel on corporate, technology, trademark and licensing matters for a television network, a professional sports organization, a major cellular carrier, several national franchisors and franchisees, and numerous other clients. He has handled intellectual property asset management, intellectual property audits and numerous trademark, copyright, licensing and other intellectual property matters for clients in many industries, including one of America’s largest generators of energy and its affiliates. Bill has been lead counsel in the start-up and operation of two state lotteries and other gaming companies.

Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Bill held multiple leadership positions at his previous firm, including serving on its Executive Committee, chairing its Technology and Intellectual Property practice group, and chairing the hiring, technology and business development committees.

Bill has also conducted strategic and business planning and business succession planning consulting engagements for a variety of professional services and other firms and non-profit entities. He also advises the Greek Orthodox Church and the largest Hellenic nonprofit organization.
