William J. Dorsey

William J. Dorsey, a partner in the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice, practices in the areas of creditors’ rights, real estate, complex commercial and intellectual property litigation.

Will represents many of the nation’s leading lenders in cases involving intercreditor disputes, breach of credit agreements, guaranty enforcement, claims of lender liability and lien priority fights. He also represents commercial lenders in bankruptcy litigation matters, including cash collateral disputes, plan confirmation, claim objections, lift stay motions and other contested hearings.

He has handled foreclosures of retail, hotel, single-family home development, condominium and condo-hotel projects across the country, including coordination of multi-state foreclosures. In addition, Will negotiates and prepares forbearance agreements and deeds in lieu of foreclosure; litigates construction defect and mechanics lien claims on behalf of lenders, title insurance companies and property owners; and prosecutes and defends complex commercial lease disputes on behalf of large institutional lenders and commercial landlords and tenants. He has served as a court-appointed attorney to bankruptcy examiners and has prosecuted numerous preferential transfer and post-petition transfer actions under Sections 547 and 549 of the Bankruptcy Code.

Will has also litigated numerous commercial leasing disputes and negotiated resolutions for commercial landlord and tenant clients throughout the country, including in connection with his representation of nationwide owners, developers, and managers of office buildings and shopping centers.

In the area of intellectual property litigation, Will concentrates his practice on disputes involving unfair competition, trade secret and trademark infringement.

Will has co-authored articles on the mortgage foreclosure process and landlord-tenant disputes for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education.
