Bill’s practice focuses on intellectual property litigation, including patent, trademark and copyright infringement, trade secret misappropriation, and unfair competition cases. Bill has substantial experience representing technology-based clients in other complex commercial litigation as well, including software license disputes, fraud, false advertising, and business-related torts. Bill has extensive experience in all aspects of litigation, including discovery, law and motion, claim construction and trial.

Bill’s patent litigation experience includes representing both plaintiffs and defendants in cases involving a wide range of technologies, including computer software and hardware, semiconductors, wired and wireless networks, 3-D graphics and television broadcast technology, and medical devices.

His trademark and copyright experience, for both large and small companies, includes significant experience with TROs and preliminary injunctions, as well as seizures of counterfeit goods. His work often involves cutting-edge technologies or issues. For example, Bill assisted in obtaining a preliminary injunction in the first case nationwide to hold that a domain name could infringe a registered trademark. Several years later, he obtained a preliminary injunction for Sony Computer Entertainment America, Inc. in one of the first reported cases decided under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Bill’s practice also includes trademark, copyright and commercial litigation involving a wide range of traditional goods and services.
