Bill formerly headed the McGuireWoods business practice, was managing partner of the Norfolk office until 2004, and served on the firm’s Advisory Committee.

Bill's practice includes corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and dispute resolution matters. He has written articles on various subjects including the Virginia Foreign Money Claims Act. He has served as an arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and the American Arbitration Association. Bill has served on and chaired various committees of the American Bar Association and is listed in various Who's Who publications. Since 1993, Bill has served as adjunct faculty at the University of Virginia School of Law teaching Alternative Dispute Resolution.
