Yalei Sun

Yalei Sun is a partner in Morgan Lewis's Intellectual Property Practice. Mr. Sun focuses his practice on patent prosecution and patent litigation, serving clients in a broad range of industries, including semiconductors, telecommunications, computer software/hardware, and oil.

Since 2006, Mr. Sun has been actively involved in expanding Morgan Lewis's Greater China Practice. He represents Chinese companies in a broad spectrum of IP and non-IP matters, ranging from IP due diligence, licensing/settlement negotiations, and patent litigation to government regulation compliance and appellate matters. He regularly travels to various parts of China and has been invited to give lectures to help Chinese companies gain insight into the U.S. legal system. In addition, Mr. Sun has been assisting U.S. companies to enforce their IP rights in China by collaborating with many Chinese law firms.

Mr. Sun began his legal career in 2002 as a patent agent at a New York City-based boutique law firm, where his primary responsibility was patent prosecution, patent infringement, and invalidity analyses.

Mr. Sun received his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 2005, where he conducted extensive research on Chinese patent law and published two articles on this subject. Mr. Sun received his M.S. in geophysics from Stanford University in 1999. While a Ph.D. candidate at Stanford University, Mr. Sun conducted four years of advanced research in the field of 3-D seismic imaging. He received his M.S. in solid mechanics from Tsinghua University, China, in 1995 and his B.S., with honors, in engineering mechanics and electronics and computer science from Tsinghua University, China, in 1993. Mr. Sun is fluent in Chinese and English.

Mr. Sun is admitted to practice in California only and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
