Yonghao Hou is of counsel in Barnes & Thornburg’s Indianapolis office and is a member of the Intellectual Property Department.

Dr. Hou concentrates her practice on the preparation and prosecution of patents in the pharma/biotech field in the U.S. and foreign countries, and on the maintenance of large active docket for various clients ranging from major corporations to startups, institutions and universities. She also focuses on international scope patent procurement, due diligence research and analysis, multinational business transactions and multiparty complex licensing.

With experience obtaining U.S. and foreign patents through active prosecution, Dr. Hou works closely with clients, examiners and foreign associates to procure patents. She has drafted and prosecuted biotechnology patent applications in international scope and orchestrated patent portfolio licensing deals among multiple parties. Dr. Hou also has experience pursuing appeal, re-examination and pre-appeal conference review before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and foreign patent offices. She often assists Chinese individuals and corporations with various business transactions and litigation matters in the U.S.

In 2010, Dr. Hou earned her J.D. from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Prior to that, she earned her Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the Indiana University School of Medicine. She earned her M.S. from the Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, and her B.S. from Wuhan University.

Dr. Hou is a native Mandarin Chinese speaker.

In addition to being admitted to practice in Indiana and the District of Columbia, Dr. Hou is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
