Zachary W. Mazin’s practice focuses on complex civil litigation. He began his career representing Royal Bank of Canada in the Enron securities class action litigation, successfully helping RBC obtain a dismissal with prejudice of the Enron investors’ lawsuit seeking to hold RBC jointly and severally liable with the world’s largest financial institutions for billions of dollars in damages arising out of the structured financial products Enron used to defraud the investing public. He also represented RBC in a dispute with Rabobank over its obligation to pay on a $517 million Enron-related credit default swap.

Zach also has experience representing manufacturers of consumer products. He participated in the representation of MEGA Brands, a Canadian toy manufacturer, in a series of litigations arising out of its acquisition of Rose Art Industries, Inc., the manufacturer of Magnetix toys. The representation included the federal trial of claims against the sellers for fraud, breach of contract, and earnout calculations. He also defended MEGA Brands in a nationwide class action seeking a refund for all consumers who ever purchased Magnetix and other magnet-based toys produced by the company.

His recent representations primarily involve disputes arising out of the housing market crisis, wherein he is advising governmental and private clients who invested in asset-backed securities and collateralized debt obligations as they seek redress for the misrepresentations and breaches of warranties written into those financial products by their originators and sponsors.

In addition, Zach has handled a number of smaller matters involving disputes arising out of commercial contracts, business torts and commercial leases.
